As the heat rises, many of us are drawn to practising sports on the beach and in the sea.

In order to enjoy the many benefits of exercising by the sea, Sports Partner reminds us of some fundamental tips for healthier and safer sporting activities.

THE SUN

The sun, this enemy so harmful to our skin, but which, in small quantities and at the right time, brings countless health benefits.

Vitamin D is important and essential for our bones, cells and immune system. Produced by our bodies, when boosted by UV rays, it is believed to help reduce the risk of multiple sclerosis, high blood pressure, diabetes and even heart disease.

On top of all this, it also helps you sleep better, brings emotional balance and boosts weight loss, as the sun’s rays can reduce the fat cells beneath the skin’s surface.

But in order to get the most out of our sunshine, we must be careful to use it at the most beneficial times, when the harmful rays are less aggressive, and always wear sunscreen with a protection index of at least SPF 30 and constantly renew it to avoid the dreaded skin cancer.

THE HEAT

Encouraging outdoor sports in the summer, especially for children, is marvellous, but we must take several precautions when it comes to the heat.

We should drink more water or fruit juices and eat light meals. Avoid the hottest hours, especially between 11am and 4pm, wear a hat and sunglasses with UVA and UVB protection.

THE SAND

Playing sports on a surface like sand, whether it’s beach volleyball, beach football, beach handball, tennis or just walking and running, brings countless benefits for your cardiovascular capacity, but you do need to take extra care, such as stretching your calf muscles and Achilles tendon to avoid the dreaded tendonitis.

However, for those who don’t have as much experience, we recommend wearing trainers initially so as not to strain the tendons too much. If you want to practise sport without shoes, you can do so on wet sand, where it is firmer.

THE SEA

Accidents are unfortunately more frequent than most people realise, with drowning being the third leading cause of unintentional death in children and young people worldwide. That said, the benefits of practising a water-related physical activity, be it swimming, surfing or stand up paddle, are numerous, but care must be taken and, above all, they must always be practised on guarded beaches.

Water sports such as swimming are an excellent way to get some aerobic exercise. Just two hours a week can reduce the risk of chronic diseases, improve the health of people with diabetes and heart disease.

It also offers excellent psychological benefits, reducing levels of anxiety, fatigue and tension.

At Sports Partner we recommend sports on the beach, always with basic care and with the safest equipment that complies with the most stringent manufacturing and safety standards on the market, because safety should always go hand in hand with sport in order to maximise the countless benefits that sport provides.

Practise sport safely, be healthy and happy.
